U12 Weekly Update - Jan 04

Posted by U12 Program at Jan 4, 2023 5:59PM PST

Happy New Year U12!

Thanks to everyone who made it out to our club race, it was great to see such support from parents and athletes. Moving forward we look to settle into regular programming and welcome our new coach William King who will be starting this weekend. William is a fantastic skier with experience competing as a high level FIS athlete and we are thrilled to have him join the U12 coaching team!

Now that the holidays are done U12 will not be early loading and will be meeting on hill at 9am.

Things of note:
Athlete Race Entry’s- FYI I will handle all WMSC U12 athletes’ race entries. The payment for races will be included in the race registrations which I send out a few weeks prior to each event.
Goal Sheets- I have attached our goal sheet template to this email for those who missed our on-hill goal setting sessions last week. If your child missed this, please have them fill in the sheet and bring it up the mountain to go through with their coach.
Texting Coaches on hill- It is very difficult for me and coaches to check phones on hill in the cold/snow while their full attention is needed with the athletes. If you have different pick up or drop off times for the day, these should be planned with coaches and children prior to the training day and please call if its urgent.
Jacks Away! I am away for holidays from 09-17 of January. I will send out our weekly email on Wednesday as per usual with Charlotte managing the team on hill.

If you think you have a room or two to spare for this week or racing, please email Norams@wmsc.info . There will be a small stipend for each volunteer you are able to accommodate. U12 Holiday Camp 2 Schedule

Posted by Jack Evans at Dec 22, 2022 6:41PM PST
image

Hello U12!

Thanks to all of you for best preparing your children for the cold temperatures through our first holiday camp. Coaches worked closely with kids through setting personal technical goals, learning the on ski warm up routine and raising children’s ski IQ through teaching race skiing terminology. Looking ahead to our next camp we plan to ski our first three days GS followed by Slalom. We will discuss and complete our goal setting with children and hopefully be back skiing in our race centre on Ptarmigan ski run.

Things of note:
On mountain release- Kids will finish on mountain at 2pm each day, you can expect children at the bottom for 2:30. Parents must communicate their designated meeting spot with their child for the end of each day. We aim to finish at Chic Pea on mountain restaurant for the next holiday camp. Parents are welcome to meet kids at Chicpea or they will ski down with a designated ski buddy to their destination. Kids have strict rules to stay on piste when skiing down and to not leave their ski buddy.
Contacting Coaches on hill- Please note that it is very difficult for myself and coaches to check phones on hill in the cold while their full attention is needed with the athletes. If you have different pick up or drop off times for the day, these should be planned with coaches and children prior to the training day and please call if its urgent.
Club Race Sign Up- Please sign up using the link below for our club race on Dec 31st.* Deadline is Dec 29th*. This will be a head to head relay in teams mixed with all WMSC age groups.
