U12 PROGRAM OVERVIEW
U12 Race Program — Ages 10 & 11
The U12 Program is targeted at ten and eleven-year-old skiers who show a keen inclination towards racing and demonstrate strong skiing skills. The program aims to elevate each individual's technical skill level through increased volume of skiing, diversity on and off snow, physical and mental training and the introduction to structured competition. The technical model of this program is firmly based on Alpine Canada Alpin’s AIM2WIN document with participation in a limited number of competitions thoughtout the season.
When do we train? The season runs from December through early April, with training on Fridays & weekends and over the Christmas holiday break — making it easy to fit into the school year.
Athletes will compete in provincial races, zone events, and Whistler Cup during the season. In addition, week-long/weekend camps run through the summer and late autumn.
What will athletes get up to? Of course, racing is at the heart of it — but the fun doesn't stop there! Throughout the season, athletes will also have access to:
🏋️ Fitness training to is a key component
🎿 Ski tuning clinics to learn how to keep their equipment race-ready
This program is all about building confidence, making friends, and falling in love with the sport — one gate at a time!

Skis
All U12 athletes must have a pair of skis for each discipline Slalom (SL), Giant Slalom (GS) and All Mountain Skis.
Boots
It is important that boots be “gentle” in this age category. We highly recommend that a softer flex boot (no stiffer than 80) be your first point of interest. All-mountain or Freeride boots will generally meet the flex recommendations, but we encourage you to invest in a pair of Race boots if possible. Most ski shops will have a professional boot fitter on staff to make sure your new boots fit comfortably and functionally.
Helmets
Helmets are mandatory and need to fit properly. Soft-eared helmets are only allowed for slalom, with a chin guard. Athletes will need FIS approved helmets.
Other EquipmentPoles should have straps or clip in system.
Slalom (SL) protection equipment is not mandatory, but important for practicing proper SL technique. This equipment includes: poleguards, shin guards, chin guard for helmet.
Mouthguards are mandatory for gate training.
Back Protectors are mandatory.
U12 athletes do not need a speed/downhill suit.
Goggles are needed that fit with your helmet. Extra lenses and/or spare goggles are very handy when the weather turns foul, or your goggles are damaged.
Gloves that fit and keep your hands warm. Padded gloves are not mandatory.
Uniform
U12 registration includes a WMSC Club jacket. We encourage all athletes to wear the WMSC Club uniform.
2nd hand equipment can also be found at the Ski SWAP held on Thanksgiving weekend at the Club Cabin or through our Buy & Sell FB page.

Athletes are expected to attend all events throughout the season, turning up on time and in their gear.
