Since 1968 the Whistler Mountain Ski Club has been Developing Champions! WMSC is dedicated to the development of able-bodied and Paralympic snow sports (specifically Alpine Ski Racing) from entry level ages to Masters in all disciplines including Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G, Downhill and SkiCross. Each season we anticipate more than 160 young racers to actively participate in our programs. The Club is a not-for-profit organization run by parents and associates. Our members have extensive experience in organizing National and International events and a large selection of athletes on the Provincial and National Teams attests to the premier level of the Club’s ski racing programs. Current Canadian Ski Team athletes/coaches and WMSC Alumni include Britt Janyk, Manuel Osborne-Paradis, Robbie Dixon, Michael Janyk, Allison Forsyth, Rob Boyd as well as National Ski X athletes & Alumni Marielle Thompson, Ashleigh McIvor, Julia Murray, Brian Bennett and Davey Barr, and Para Alpine 2018 Olympic medalist Mollie Jepsen.

The Club founded the Whistler Cup, which has evolved into a world-class juvenile event. The event attracts over 400 racers from 20 countries, promising some of the best competition in the world for young alpine ski racers. Our coaching staff at the Club is world class with national team level coaching experience. We have a talented and enthusiastic group of Canadian Ski Coaches Federation trained and certified coaches whose positive results in competition over the last few years has rated our program as one of the best in Canada. We include amongst our partners Whistler Blackcomb, and Descente.

We are a member of both the British Columbia Alpine Ski Association and Alpine Canada Alpine competing under the rules of the International Ski Federation

MEMBERSHIP TYPES

  • Family Membership - $250 - Required for all families registering athletes into WMSC programs, and includes BC Alpine Membership for parents. This also allows for parents to sign-up for the Masters Program. Families with athletes racing with WMSC will renew their membership during the Winter Program Registration. ​

  • Masters Membership - $120 - For all racers 19 years of age and up that want to participate in the Masters Program and have NOT purchased a Family Membership or enrolled your athletes in the club. You cannot register any family members as racing athletes with this membership type.

  • Alumni Membership - $100 - For all past athletes, BCST Members, NCAA Athletes, and friends of the club. You cannot register any family members as racing athletes with this membership type. Does not include BC Alpine Membership or Masters Competitor licensing.  

  • Volunteer Membership - FREE - For all parents and athletes NOT COVERED BY OUR FAMILY MEMBERSHIP volunteering with the club.

Meet the Team & Coaches

  • Sandy Nattress

    Executive Director

    Originally from Collingwood, Ontario, Sandy boasts an impressive 55+ years of skiing and nearly 40 years of coaching .

    Under his leadership, the club delivers robust alpine and mountain bike programs, along with camps and events—most notably the Whistler Cup.

    When not immersed in ski club operations, he enjoys boating, biking, and engaging in various hands‑on projects.

  • Dave Duncan

    Controller

    Originally from Ontario, Dave fostered his love of skiing and racing on the hundred vertical feet of Boler Mountain. Between Alaska and BC, Dave has called the West home the last twenty years.

    As a former national ski cross team member for twelve years, Dave has a wide range of athletic experience that also includes his alpine years in NCAA and on the Ontario provincial team.

  • Carly Fox

    Operations Manager

    Carly started out her ski career as an Instructor at Perisher then came to Whistler for ‘just one season’ in 2005. In true Australian fashion – she has been in Whistler ever since.

    Carly has been part of the Whistler Kids Operations team, a supervisor of the Adaptive program and in summer has coached in many of Whistler’s biking and camp programs. Carly has overseen operations in major events such as Crankworx, the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics and the 2025 Invictus Games.

  • Drew Hetherington

    Lead Coach

    Drew has been a local to the Sea To Sky region for 40+ years and has been skiing for about that long. He has had over 25 years instructing, and still absolutely loves it.

    Skiing is Drew’s favourite past time, which is why he’s not the biggest fan of summer (jk).

  • Dana Toso

    Lead Coach

    Dana was born in Patagonia, Argentina and has been skiing since the age of 4, initially pursuing a career as an alpine ski racer and later into ski cross and freeride disciplines.

    Currently, Dana is a member of the Argentina Demo Team and enjoys being a ski course conductor, trainer and examiner.

    Beyond skiing, Dana has developed herself as a bike coach and a nature and sports enthusiast in general.

  • Steven Thorup

    Fast Fridays Lead Coach

    Steve grew up in Ontario at Mansfield Ski Club from age 3 to 18.  He began coaching at Mansfield in 2012 and had the worked with athletes in U18, U16, U14 snowboard racing for 4 years.

    Steve also helped develop the fundamentals program for Barrie Trojans Swimming club while coaching full time at Mansfield and Horseshoe Valley Resort.

    Steve moved out west in 2016 started at Whistler Blackcomb in the Ultimate 8's program and onw is in his 10th season, working the Skier Development program, All Mountain Development program and private lessons at WB.

    Missing ski racing over the years brought Steve back to racing with Whistler Mountain Ski Club and enjoys sharing small ice hill training ideas while exploring progressions as individual athletes and as a club.

  • Susie Ernsting

    Whistler Cup Manager

    Susie and her team at M1 Sports Management joined WMSC as the Event Manager of the 2024 Whistler Cup. Susie has a long history of sport management, including organizing a vast array of events including Gastown Grand Prix, IRONMAN Canada, Tour Alberta for Cancer, Valley GranFondo, Tour de Concord, any many more.

    Susie and her husband Mark have two young kids who have just started their ski racing journey as U10’s at Mt Seymour.

Board Members

  • Duncan Reid

    CHAIR

    Duncan joined the WMSC Board in November 2021.  Duncan grew up in Vancouver, skiing at Whistler every weekend and sneaking out on more than a few weekdays too.  After doing undergrad and law school at McGill in Montreal, Duncan and his wife Kirsti lived in New York and London for ten years but still found themselves checking the Whistler snow report way too often.  A move to Whistler was unavoidable and as a result, Duncan and Kirsti’s three kids are all active Alpine and Nordic skiers.

    Duncan is a partner at Farris LLP and is a member or chair of a number of non-profit organizations, and is an enthusiastic U14 soccer coach (but only when there’s no snow).

  • Matthew Quinlan

    FINANCE DIRECTOR

    Matthew was born in Canada, but spis teenage and university years in England, returned to Vancouver in the mid 1990’s and promptly moved to Whistler where he worked in Blackcomb’s race department.  He now splits his time between Vancouver and Whistler with his wife and family - all avid skiers with all three of his children in WMSC.  

    Matthew’s career in the investment banking and mining industries has spanned 25 years as principal and advisor, as well as serving on the boards of publicly traded companies.  Matthew is looking forward to contributing to the growth of the Club as a board member and promoting its core values and mission to create champions in life and in sport.

  • Nicole Stefenelli

    DIRECTOR

    Nicole Stefenelli is the CEO and Founder of Urban Impact Recycling. She is a driving force behind the company, and is passionate about recycling, waste diversion and the company’s delivery of service.     

    Nicole is also an inspiration to people who work in the recycling industry, serving on industry panels, roundtables, and committees virtually all have to do with promoting waste diversion in British Columbia. Nicole actively mentors a women entrepreneur each year through the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs Mentorship Program. 

    In 2010 Nicole won the Ernst & Young CEO of the Year in the Cleantech category. In 2012 she was awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction Award in the Entrepreneur category. Nicole is most proud of a recent award Urban Impact was awarded the Manufacturing Safety Alliance of British Columbia 2024 Manufacturing Safety Innovator Award.

  • Kim Abbott

    DIRECTOR

    Kim joined the WMSC Board in November 2021. Kim is a native of Ontario and grew up skiing in Ellicottville New York and made the move out west to Whistler and Vancouver after University. She is a resident of Vancouver, but spends her weekends skiing and mountain biking in Whistler. Her daughter Nicole joined the ski club in 2018, and is now in the U16 program.

    Kim is a VP and Director at Odlum Brown Limited and sits on the York House School Advancement Committee and the York House School Foundation Finance Committee. She is also a past member of the Vancouver Foundation Development Committee.

  • Isabelle Poirier

    DIRECTOR

    Isabelle joined the WMSC Board in November 2022. Isabelle and her husband Sean have been WMSC parents since 2018 with two athletes, Owen (FIS) and Anaïs (U16).  Isabelle comes from a family of avid ski racers, including Sean and his mom Barbara Walker (Canada National Ski Team). Isabelle lives in North Vancouver where she enjoys the ocean and the mountains as much as possible hiking, trail running and sailing. 

    Originally trained as a Registered Nurse, she also completed an MBA in Healthcare Management at the University of British Columbia and now works as a Principal Medical Science Liaison for a pharmaceutical company. As a Board Member Isabelle hopes to share the club’s vision “Developing Champions in Life and Sport”.

  • Kevin Heyries

    DIRECTOR

    Kevin Heyries is a biotech executive and co-founder of AbCellera, a Canadian leader in drug development (Nasdaq: ABCL). With a Ph.D. in biochemistry and a background in biomedical research, Kevin was pivotal in shaping strategy and business development at AbCellera. Since then, Kevin has held leadership roles at the crossroads of science and business, including in Silicon Valley, and remains a dedicated mentor to companies in life sciences and tech.

    A former competitive skier from the French Alps, Kevin is passionate about skiing, backcountry skiing, (trail) running, and scuba diving. He also coached young skiers at Cypress Mountain, and has two daughters competing at WMSC in U14 and FIS. 

  • Rob Boyd

    DIRECTOR

    Rob joined WMSC in 1982, then went on the road with the BC Ski Team, then the Canadian National Team for a 12-year tenure of chasing the White Circus around the globe. His first World Cup race was in Whistler in 1984, and in 1989 created many great memories with a victory on his home course!

    Wanting to give back to the sport and club that helped him so much along the way, Rob coached from 2002-2004, was called up to the National Team on the Women's Speed program from 2004 until shortly after the 2010 Olympics.

    With two young boys to raise with his wife Sherry, he chose to step down from the national team and worked a variety of positions - as a U16 coach, FIS coach and Athletic Director until 2018 when he chose to step aside from coaching to pursue another passion - Real Estate. Partnered with his wife Sherry, the Boyd Team has been a sponsor of the WMSC since 2018. Rob started the Rob Boyd Bursary, and their Referral Program contributes a portion of their sales commissions back to the WMSC. Rob joined the WMSC Board of Directors in 2022 to further share his insights and experiences to help guide the WMSC in whatever supportive way he can.  

  • Georgia Dahle

    DIRECTOR

    Georgia and her family (Brent) and daughter Alyssa joined the club in 2022 after spending 8 years as part of Whistler Kids. Since joining the WMSC family, Georgia has taken on a number of lead volunteer positions starting with 2022 fundraising to finish off the new timing hut.  From there, she led the volunteer organization for the 2023 Janyk Cup in January and then quickly took on co-volunteer lead with Jennifer Heyries for the 2023 Whistler Cup, where Georgia led all volunteer responsibilities for off-hill activities.  

    Georgia is currently the Director of Partnerships for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.  Outside of work, you can find Georgia snowboarding (sorry all!), running, biking and planning her family's next adventure

  • Amie Chiu

    DIRECTOR

    Amie joined the WMSC Board in 2024. She and her husband, Mark, have been WMSC parents since 2018 with their three kids, Timo and Oliver (both now Whistler Freeride) and Phoebe (U12). Amie picked up skiing late in life, having snowboarded as a teen. The family have lived all over the world - California, Singapore, Shanghai, Vancouver, and now call Whistler home. When not skiing, she can be found in the WMSC timing hut.

    Originally trained as an engineer, Amie spent almost a decade with McKinsey & Company in Asia before returning to Canada, and is now Managing Partner at Korn Ferry. Amie is excited to be working with the Board and Club who have done so much to build champions in life and sport.

  • Claudia Baerwolff

    DIRECTOR

    Claudia and her family joined WMSC in 2022, and she was appointed to the Board in 2025. Originally from Europe, she moved to BC in 2004 and quickly became an avid skier at Whistler Blackcomb. With two daughters in the Club, Claudia is proud to support WMSC’s vision of building champions in life and sport.

    A business professional in the engineering and construction industry, Claudia has lived and worked on four continents, supporting the execution of large capital projects. She currently serves as Director, Strategy at Fluor Canada Ltd. Claudia also brings a decade of non-profit Board experience, including roles as Board Chair, Chair of Governance & HR, and Secretary.

  • Jamin Davies

    DIRECTOR

    Jamin joined the WMSC Board with a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where young athletes at all levels can learn lifelong lessons through sport.   A passionate believer in "sport for life," Jamin experienced firsthand how competitive sports (specifically cycling) shape character at a young age.  When on the hill you will find Jamin telemarking or actively volunteering setting up B-nets and supporting race days while cheering on his daughter Amelia, a FIS athlete.

    Professionally, Jamin is an Engineer with an MBA, currently serving as Senior VP of Operations for an Industrial Construction & Maintenance company.   He brings governance expertise to WMSC, currently serving on the Board of the Construction Labour Relations Association (CLRA) of BC, and previously serving as Director of Operations and Board Member for the Tyrol Ski Club in Whistler.  Jamin is thrilled to channel this operational leadership and energy into supporting the WMSC community.

  • Dan Hincks

    DIRECTOR

    Dan joined the WMSC Board in November 2025, bringing a lifelong love of ski racing rooted in his years competing in Alberta. Now a North Shore resident, Dan spends his weekends in the mountains and is known to check Snow-Forecast an unhealthy amount.

    His three kids keep him fully immersed in club life, with racers spanning from the Fast Fridays program all the way up to U12. When he's not tuning skis, Dan is a Portfolio Manager and Director at Odlum Brown Limited, where he chairs the Investment Management Strategy committee. He also served a six-year term as Treasurer and Director of the Lumara Society, supporting children and families through grief and loss.

    Dan strongly believes in the power of sport to develop strong, confident, and resilient kids. He’s excited to help support the Club’s mission through athlete advocacy, family engagement, and thoughtful stewardship.
