News and Announcements

Hello Everyone,

I certainly hope that each of you and your families are doing well. I wanted to share with you some encouraging news as the Province begins to slowly reopen and we return to sport. Our Provincial Sports Organization (PSO) BC Alpine has just released their guidelines for member clubs to reopen, and we are currently amending our documentation and registration to reflect the new guidelines.

In this e-news you will read about our plans for several Saturday fitness sessions, as well as plans to reopen the gym and additional summer activities. It is our full intention to offer similar to last summer, a couple of fitness camps through the summer months and then initiate “Sport Saturdays” in the fall. These programs will be executed based on the existing limitations regarding both physical and social distancing protocols.

There is no question this has been a trying time for all of us however, I am excited for our return to sport, albeit in somewhat of a limited fashion. Your Lead Coaches and Blanca have worked tremendously hard to ensure that all the appropriate guidelines and policies will be implemented as we begin to reopen.

If you have not had a chance to see the 2020-21 Canadian Alpine, Para-Alpine and Ski Cross Teams nominations, check this link out Alpine Canada Alpin WMSC is so proud of our many alumni athletes who will compete on the world stage this coming season! There is something very inspirational when we see these athletes in action and we can say, they began their careers at WMSC.

The annual membership survey should be arriving in your inbox this week. We hope you will find the time to complete the survey as it becomes a critical component in all that we do at the club.

Our ski club is a community rich in tradition and building lifelong friendships; we are ecstatic to initiate our reopening plans and begin to welcome everyone back.

Regards,
Bob

Dear WMSC

I wanted to let you know that I received a call from Geoff Buchheister (COO of WB) today informing me of their decision that there would be no summer skiing this year. Please see the WB announcement in the Pique link below regarding cancelling any and all summer skiing. Though not the news we had hoped for, we certainly understand the decision in light of all that is transpiring with regards to COVID-19 and the health of our community. Rest assured we have been in constant dialogue with WB concerning how we might have been able to make summer skiing happen. Clearly with this news, we will not be holding any summer ski camps. We understand your collective disappointment as we had all held out a slim hope that we may have had a chance of getting up on the T-Bars in June.

Your lead coaches and I are working on developing additional summer fitness programs based on the current BC Health and WorkSafe BC guidelines. Stay tuned for an update on this initiative shortly.

In the meantime, stay healthy and active!

Regards,

Bob

Dear Racers, Coaches, Volunteers and Friends of the O2E Brands Whistler Cup 2020

These certainly are unsettling times and we hope that all of you are staying healthy and active. There is no doubt we are anxious and excited for a safe and speedy return to snow!

Understandably, we were very disappointed that we could not welcome athletes, coaches, volunteers, and sponsors to the 2020 O2E Brands Whistler Cup. Knowing we did not get a chance to compete for the Cup this year, the race organizing committee wanted to extend the opportunity to celebrate the event with the purchase of a limited edition 2020 O2E Brands Whistler Cup Descente soft shell jacket. We felt this was a unique way to commemorate an interesting time in our lives, and the event that never was!

Orders open May 18 and close June 7th.

The price is $80.00 plus Taxes. Shipping available within Canada at $23. Orders to the USA or international, please email the office at whistlercup@wmsc.info; or you can pick up at the Club Cabin.

As always, we appreciate the continued support of the O2E Brands Whistler Cup and we cannot wait to welcome you all back in 2021.
