Officials Course Level 1 | December 17

Sign up now for the introduction to ski racing course (otherwise known as the Level 1 Officials Course).
You don’t have to have any experience in ski racing; in fact, you don’t even have to be a skier. Come out and learn about what goes into making a ski race happen – on hill and off hill.

This is a great way for parents new to the club to learn about what your kids are doing. And it is an important course to help you understand where you can best volunteer for our Whistler Mountain Ski Club hosted events.

Race Admin 101 national course| December 17th

We at the Whistler Mountain ski club, have a goal to make the Race Administrator role more approachable and available to all. This is such an foundational role to any ski race and we are looking to train up the next generation of great RAs!

With this, we are bringing in one of the best in the country, Phyllis Kennedy, to facilitate a race administration course focus on running national level races. Phyllis has run races at all levels and will be coming back in march to be our lead Race Administrator for the NorAm Cup finals event. This event is open to all and will follow the officials level 1 training that will be taking place in the morning of the same day.

2022 Holiday Break Camps | Team Photos |

Just a reminder the dates of the 2 camp during the holidays break. These days are available to all age WMSC groups, free of cost. Just make sure to mark you attendance through TeamPages so your Lead Coaches can staff accordingly.

Holiday Camp 2 – December 27 to 30th.

Wednesday, December 28th is Team Photo, see you there.

During the the Holiday break the office will be open December 14th to 20th and back on Wednesday, December 28th

Calling Volunteers for U16 Race| January 14 ant 15

The U16 Coast Race will be held on January 14th and 15th on the Dave Murray National Training Centre (Ptarmigan). We need many volunteers throughout the weekend (on hill and off hill) to make this race successful for every athlete participating. It takes about 70 volunteers each day to make these races happen so let’s see you all out there!

There are plenty of volunteer opportunities on hill and off hill so we can find something for everyone. Please email u16volunteers@wmsc.info with your interest and availability. Some of the openings include – assistant starter, manual timers, bib collectors, scoreboard, gate judges, course crew, slip crew, equipment organization in garbo hut, race office, awards, timing, and race write-up.

We need all of you to make this race happen.

2023-24 WMSC HH Team Uniforms Try On Night | Sat, January 7th

We will host a uniform try-on night on Saturday, January 7th from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Club Cabin Lounge

A HH Representative will be in attendance if you have any questions about sizing, fabrics, etc.

Meet the Weasels & NorAm Social | Saturday, Dec 10th

On the 10th of December, come out and join us for a fun evening to learn about ski race volunteering from the legendary group, the Whistler Weasel workers. We’ll also share what opportunities are coming up this winter to pitch in and an overview about the NorAm Cup finals that we’ll be hosting March 21st to 28th. This event is open to all age groups and members of the community and though we enjoy time with the athletes, this is an adult only event. Looking forward to seeing you all there and if fortune is on your side, becoming an official Weasel may be in your future too.

Accommodations for NorAm Finals Volunteers Needed – Mar 21-28

From March 21-28 the Whistler Mountain Ski Club will be hosting the NorAm Finals on our very own Dave Murray National Training Centre. This world class event will be inviting volunteers from far and wide. We are reaching out to our members to offer up extra bedrooms for these volunteers. It’s a great opportunity to host volunteers from around Canada and beyond as well as have the opportunity to ensure that athletes competing in the NorAm finals (many of whom are competing for World Cup starts for the 2022-2023) have the safest and best race environment. If you think you have a room or two to spare for this week or racing, please email Norams@wmsc.info . There will be a small stipend for each volunteer you are able to accommodate. Now is also a great time to also become a volunteer for this event and see some of the top racers from around North America. Please email NorAms@wmsc.info to secure your spot. There are plenty of opportunities on hill and off hill.

Officials Course Level 2 | December 10 and 11.

Level 2 is a detailed introduction to the methodology of alpine ski racing. It covers the types of races, ski competition rules (ICR), points systems and the responsibilities of the key organizational roles; chief of race administration, chief of timing, chief of gates judges, chief of course, chief of race, start referee, finish referee and referee.

The prerequisites are Level 1 plus at least 8 days of race volunteering experience in at least 2 different areas (for example 5 days course and 3 days manual timing).
There is a one-hour exam open book at the end of the course.

I hope everyone one had a great Christmas break! Here is the plan for week December 28th to January 2nd.
December 28th Wednesday- Technical Free Ski Slalom Skis. Load Fitz Chair @ 7:45 am. Meet at the Garbo 8:05 . Please remember its team photo day so bring your uniform is you have one. Also a reminder to put the Wheaton Precious Metals Sticker on your helmets. Men’s Fitness in the gym 4:00 to 5:00 pm And Women’s Fitness in the gym 5:00 to 6:00

December 29th Thursday Slalom Training Load Fitz Chair 7:45 Inspection 8:45 Inspection First run 9:15. Women will have group goal setting session with Jess and Master Coach Lucinda Jagger from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. Men will have a Fitness in the Studio at 3:00 to 4:00

December 30 Friday – Slalom Training Load Fitz Chair 7:45 Inspection 8:45 Inspection First run 9:15. Men will have group goal setting session with Matou and Master Coach Lucinda Jagger from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. Women will have a Fitness in the Gym at 3:00 to 4:30.

FIS Update December 13, 2022
Hello Parents and Athletes,
I am currently having some technology issue with my phone and transferring the old data to my new phone. So, I am best reached by email or if you have a question that requires an immediate please contact Jessica.
Trip Info for Panorama GMC BC Cup December 16 to December 23.

Athletes will be staying at the Ski Tip and Tamarack on the mountain. Kitchens are provided. Shopping will be done in Invermere. Athletes that require special foods should shop for those prior to departure. There will be lots of room for coolers and prepare meals from home. Athletes are requested to bring two ski bags if they are brining more than three pairs of skis. Extra poles are encouraged. All the usual gear is required. Extra warm clothes to be stored at the bottom of the race course to change into after the race run.

Athletes who attended the preseason at Panorama should bring the preseason RFID pass or they will charged an extra $5.00 for a new one. CWSAA pass are valid. Panorama will issue a season pass for those athletes.

• December 16th Friday – Departure for Kamloops 2:00 pm . Stay at the Super 8 on the Hill . Dinner at Earls.
• December 17th Saturday-Travel to Panorama. Shopping Invermere. Dinner at Alto 6:30 on the mountain.
• December 18th Sunday – Free ski or training to be confirmed.
• December 19th Monday and 20th Tuesday – Women’s’ and Men’s’ GS
• December 21st Wednesday and 22nd Thursday Women’s and Men’s SL
• December 22nd Thursday Team Christmas Dinner Cliff-hanger Restaurant Greywolf Golf course.
• December 23rd Friday – Departure from Panorama 5:30 am MST ETA in Whistler 4:00 pm PST.

The next upcoming trip is the GMC Alberta Cup FIS series at Mt. Norquay, Alberta. The budget and registration sheet will be sent by Friday December 16th . The estimated cost for this trip will be $1800- $2100 dependent on how many coaches are needed for the trip and the number of vehicles we must rent. Please email Richard your intent this week regarding this race so we can create budget that is as close to accurate as possible.
Pleas note the additions to the FIS Calendar for races in Western Canada. We will target these additions however athletes should discuss with their parents and coaches about what best suits them regarding academics and goals. The additions and changes are as followed.

Alberta Cup GMC at Lake Louise 2 SL 2 GS February 4th to,7th This race would follow the Kimberly Speed Series. This would be recommended for those who not attending the Kimberly Speed series in the last week of January. For those athletes who are attending the Kimberly Speed series this would be a long haul away from school and you must plan for that if you intend to race both locations.

BC Alpine Coaches Cup at Sun Peaks April 22 and 23 2 SL and 2 GS. This race would be recommended for those athletes who are trying to improve their point profile for the 2023-24 season or for those who need results to qualify for the BC Ski Team.
