U16 Team Update | Sep 26th

Hello U16 group,

Thanks to the nine U16 racers who helped Sunday afternoon clear the training center of broken gates, b-net poles and any garbage we could find.  The group started from the Chic Pea hut to Raven and descended to the timing hut.  Our run was not too littered, but the clean-up will help the brush mower take down any growth and we’ll need less snow to start the season.  We also had a sneak-peak at our new snow making guns – looking forward to seeing them in action as soon as possible.

U16/FIS KickStart Camp
During the thanksgiving weekend an overnight camp has been created to combine the two age groups and focus primarily on fitness while also delivering a range of educational sessions.  We will be staying at the Whistler Athlete Center in Cheakamus Crossing, a dorm-style building created by the 2010 Olympics specifically for housing local and visiting athletes.  Our daily schedule will include all aspects of fitness while also delivering a tuning session, video and technical talk, nutrition, mental performance and goal setting techniques and more!

Understandably, if you have thanksgiving plans, we can accommodate racer’s leaving for an evening or night to be with their friends and family.  Expect the price to remain the same, however.

Dates are Oct 8-12 and is $650 per racer.

Oct 8th | 5-6 PM athlete drop-off and check in at Whistler Athlete Center

Oct 12th | 1 PM athlete pick-up

Full camp schedule to come.
Register here from now until Oct 1st.

WMSC Ski Swap
October 10th is the ski swap at the club.  Bring your gently used equipment and softgoods after entering in the details in the equipment entry form.

Volunteer shifts will be needed – register here to count for your hours

Travel Tracker
Thanks to everyone who has filled in the Travel Tracker spreadsheet that gives me your racer’s plans.  Without knowing what you’re intending to do, I cannot book accurate rooms and transportation/meals etc.  I also need to know who I should be entering into the event. Currently, I’m missing 20 family’s input and the deadline for responding is OCT 4th.  Afterwards, I will lock the sheet, and any changes will need to be communicated in writing to drew@wmsc.info.  Link to the Travel Tracker below.

The U16 Team Meeting is scheduled for Oct 7 @ 7pm.  This is to relay as much specific information about the season as I can.  I’ll go over the calendar, where to get information and hope to answer all your questions.  Please do not miss this valuable session.  U16 Team Meeting | Meeting-Join | Microsoft Teams

WMSC AGM & Fitness Testing
Add to your calendar Oct 24th for our Annual General Meeting and Fitness Testing.  This year, as with the AGM, fitness testing for everyone will be at the Whistler Secondary School.  Start time TBA.

Canada Winter Games selection will have a fitness testing component: 600 points minimum.  You can review the points system at  https://alpinecanada.org/train/project-excel/fitness-combine.  More information on CWG selection will be available in the QRS (quotas, rules & selection) on BCAlpine.com soon.  From what I’ve heard so far, the two Slalom and two Giant Slalom races will be scored as individual runs, providing up to eight eligible PRS results.  The 5 highest scoring runs will be added together for a total point score.  I will present what I learn at the BC Alpine meetings next weekend during the U16 Team Meeting for clarification.

Dryland session workouts can be found here:
Save a copy for your own use, review the workouts for each day and record in the yellow boxes.  Watch the videos and create a Youtube playlist specific to each day for quick reference.  If you have questions, please reach out to me or Ryan Oughtred.

Thanks,

Drew
