U12 Update | October 21st 2026

Hello U12 families,

My name is Zoë Brooker and this is my first official communication with you as your new U12 Lead Coach. Having just relocated to Whistler this past weekend, I’m really happy to be here in person and look forward to meeting all of our athletes and families.

I’m excited to get to know the group and to get started on what I hope will be a fun, rewarding, and engaging season for our athletes. U12 is an important stage in an athlete’s development, and our focus this season will be on creating an environment where athletes can challenge themselves, build strong team relationships, and develop the skills, confidence and proficiency to ski a variety of terrain and conditions, all while fostering a love for skiing and racing.

As we get closer to the start of the season, I wanted to share a few important dates and opportunities for our athletes and families.

1. Fitness Testing – This Weekend
A quick reminder that fitness testing is taking place this weekend for all age groups, from U10 through FIS. Sign up is now closed.

If you are not yet on our Team’s WhatsApp, please use this link to add yourself. WhatsApp is used as a secondary means of communication and for quick, last minute updates.

Fitness testing will help us establish a baseline of each athlete’s current strength, fitness, and physical development. This is a great experience for all athletes and an important part of our preparation for the upcoming season. All U12 athletes should be working on their fitness at home, through a variety of sports and activities. I will be in attendance for the fitness testing as well.

2. Virtual Parent Meeting - October 22 at 7:00 PM
We will be holding a virtual parent meeting this Thursday, October 22, at 7:00 PM. This will be a great opportunity to connect with you and review the season, discuss expectations, and answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to meeting everyone and getting the season underway.

3. Pre-Season Camp at Sun Peaks - Gauging Interest
I’m also very excited to share that we are looking to offer a pre-season training camp at Sun Peaks this November!

The proposed dates are November 13 through November 18, with 5 days on snow.

Our goal is to offer the opportunity for our athletes to get an early start to the season through reserved lane training space, to gain mileage and confidence, reconnect as a team, and get in valuable training before the winter season gets underway. This camp would also provide a great opportunity to test new equipment and make any necessary adjustments before regular season training begins.

This would be a parent lead trip, eg., parents to arrange and provide their own accommodation and food for their athletes.

Please express your interest in this preseason camp by answering the poll in our WhatsApp group, by Sunday, October 25.

I will also be discussing this camp at tomorrow night's Parent Presentation meeting.

4. Dryland
Dryland is open to all U12 athletes and will continue to run through October. We would love to see athletes join these sessions so please join in if you are able. We have a number of day options available, typically the following:

Monday 4-5:30pm at the Clubhouse

Wednesday 4-5:30pm at the Clubhouse

Thursday 4-5:30pm at the Clubhouse

*Thursday 4:30-6:30pm at Cleveland Park, North Vancouver - Please register in Active

*Saturday AM MTB and PM Sports Saturdays - Please register in Active - not running on Oct 24th

If you are new to the club, dryland is a means of encouraging physical literacy, learning proper technique for drills, all to build strength, coordination and balance that will directly translate to our on snow season.

Please join this WhatsApp Dryland Conditioning group where Ryan, our Dryland Coordinator, will post weekly updates for upcoming dryland sessions.

If you are not able to participate in dryland, I want to strongly encourage your athletes to prioritize participating in as many sports and activities as possible over the next month. Sports like hiking while the weather is good, soccer, gymnastics and swimming etc., are all great.

I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and to getting to know all of our athletes and families.

Best wishes,

Zoë Brooker
