FIS Update | June 13th 2026

Hello FIS Team,

With the 2025/26 season behind us and June now underway, we wanted to reconnect with athletes and families as we begin preparing for the 2026/27 season.

While we have taken a short break following the conclusion of the race season, June marks the beginning of the 2026/27 training year for our FIS athletes. Over the coming weeks we will roll out summer training plans, preparation camps, project information, and season planning opportunities designed to help athletes make the most of the months ahead.

Whether your plans involve Chile, New Zealand, Europe, or training closer to home, and whether your goals include BC Cup success, Provincial Team selection, NCAA opportunities, or simply becoming a stronger ski racer, the work that begins now lays the foundation for success next winter and beyond.

Success in the 2026/27 winter season is built on the work done this summer.

This update contains important information regarding registration, summer training, upcoming meetings, FIS Performance Prep Camps, and planning for the 2026/27 season.

Registration & Communication

The WhatsApp Community will be used throughout the summer and winter season to share updates, training opportunities, travel information, meeting reminders, race communications, and program announcements.

Strength & Conditioning

Dryland training also known as Strength & Conditioning (S&C) are critical from now through Chile and will continue to be a major focus until winter returns to Whistler.

WMSC coaching staff have been working with Ryan Oughtred to develop our summer Strength & Conditioning program for WMSC athletes. All athletes are encouraged to complete a periodized S&C training program over the summer and the WMSC S&C program is one option.

Many of our athletes and families will already know Ryan through his work as a Youth Development Coach with WMSC. Ryan is a former Canadian National Ski Team athlete with a strong background in athlete performance, recovery, and long-term athletic development.

The first phase of the summer training program will be distributed directly to registered athletes in the coming weeks.

FIS Performance Prep Camps

Originally intended to prepare athletes for Chile Training projects we will expand this to all WMSC FIS athletes regardless of participation in Chile. WMSC will be hosting two FIS Performance Prep Camps in Whistler:

  1. June 26–28

  2. July 17–19

Each camp will consist of three full days of activities designed to prepare athletes physically, mentally, and organizationally for the season ahead.

Camp components will include:

  • Strength & Conditioning sessions

  • Team building activities

  • Workshops on nutrition, hydration, recovery, sleep, equipment preparation, and sport-specific mental skills

  • Athlete-led discussions with current and former high-performance athletes regarding balancing school, travel, ski racing, and future pathways

Chile Update

The countdown to Chile is on.

Recent storms have brought 20 cm of fresh snow to several Chilean resorts, with additional snowfall in the forecast. While there is still plenty of winter to come in the Southern Hemisphere, it is exciting to see snow already accumulating in the Andes and it bodes well for our August training project.
