Last week’s training

Last week we had to adapt to the poor snow coverage, with few runs open, many skiers and a lot of rocks. During the first 3 days we managed to do a very productive first 2-hour block of technical training related to short turns and mogul skiing. Sunday was a good opportunity to let the athletes ski freely with almost no coaching and just some direction on all-round mode through the ski resort. I think most of them had a lot of fun doing so.

I was especially pleased to see 9 athletes show up to fitness training on Wednesday in Whistler and 26 athletes to the fitness training on Saturday in the Myrtle Phillip Secondary School. Let’s keep up the attitude and hope to see even more athletes in the next fitness training sessions.

Next trainings

I was skiing today, and the resort has a lot more to offer now. There are many more runs open and there are not so many rocks in the snow. We haven’t yet got confirmation from WB to have a training space available, so at this moment we will still plan the next 4 days of training as free skiing with much better conditions than last weekend, while we hope to get some training space very soon.

This week we will have the usual fitness training in Whistler and the Gymnastics training in Cheakamus Athletes Centre for those who signed up. For those athletes coming, please make sure you sign the online waiver at the end of this document.

New fridge calendar

At the end of this document, you can find the latest version of the fridge calendar for this season. It includes the new dates for Panorama, the Big White Ski Cross, the Mt Seymour Zone Race, and a modification to the dates for the gymnastics program in Cheakamus (please check the dates at the end of this document).

Races in Banff, Kimberley, Big White SX, Mt Seymour and Sestriere (ITA) trip information

All Canada trips’ sheets will go out next week. Sestriere (ITA) trip will go out by the end of December.

Attendance

We expect all athletes to attend every training day in the program. If any athlete who is signed up for a certain program will not attend a training day within that program, please inform us in advance through the connection coach. We encourage athletes to do this directly, with no need for the parents to do so. Please help us achieve this ownership goal we intend to reach with athletes.

Ski Training

*Upload: *

On Thursday and Friday, athletes may upload from Whistler Base or Creekside Base. Please be in the line-up by 8:15am latest for an 8:30am upload during those days.

On Saturday and Sunday, we will have early load from Whistler at 7:45 with the new Fitz chairlift. All athletes must be there at 7:35 the latest to get completely ready to ski before embarking the chairlift. We want to use the time before the public arrive to do runs in the Garbo chairlift, so we will not wait for anyone that still needs to get ready when arriving to Cheak pea, where we will just quickly drop the backpacks.

Download:
Very probably we will have to download by gondola during the 4 days we will ski this week.
