September Update

Well time has certainly flown by with summer behind us and fall in full swing! Since my last note the environment of uncertainty in our day to day lives and our planning process continues. We realize that there are many questions that you and your family may have. This note will address many of the questions, however please understand that we may not have all the answers at this point. That being said, I wanted to share several updates and initiatives underway at the club. Lots to communicate!

Sports! Saturdays

We continue to hold weekend fall fitness activities whether that is the weekly Sports Saturdays or our scheduled October weekend camps. The athletes have thoroughly enjoyed these activities while acquiring new skills. The best aspect of these weekend programs is the athletes get to be with their ski friends and experience the sense of community at WMSC. We encourage when convenient that your athlete join us for these weekend activities.

Ski Swap

We will hold our annual Ski Swap Sat Oct 10th albeit in a slightly different format and location. In order to abide by provincial Covid guidelines regarding gatherings, this year’s Swap will only be open for Members and Alumni. Our Partners at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler will be our host for this year’s Swap held in their beautiful and “spacious” ballroom. The drop-off of gear will take place during the afternoon and early eve of Friday Oct 9th at the Ballroom with the sale commencing Saturday. In order to limit the number of members in the Swap, we will create time slots (by way of registration) for everyone, never having more than 50 people in the room at once with appropriate time between slots for cleaning. As with all our initiatives/endeavours, we must abide by the Provincial Health regulations regarding Covid.

The Swap is a tremendous opportunity for families and racers to exchange gear, especially for some of our newer U12 and U14 families. Additional details will be posted on the website in the next few days as to the mechanics of the event.

Kick-off Day

The Kick-off day and AGM will take place on November 7th the final details are still being ironed out as we determine the best way to communicate to our membership. We anticipate one element being a video presentation similar to last year’s award show to highlight what lies ahead for the season. We will update the website once plans are finalized.

Typically, we have held Parent information sessions over this weekend. Plans are underway by each lead coach to host zoom calls for each program later in October.

We also plan on hosting a new member zoom call to assist in answering any questions our new members may have.

Program Fees

We anticipate posting the 2020/21 program fees in early October.

Pre-Season Camps

Fall pre-season race camps are being finalized as I write this note, with a combination of both Sun Peaks and Panorama. Covid has required us to re-evaluate our trip travel policies now being governed and mandated by BC Health and ViaSport. Under these new guidelines, we will be looking for parent volunteers to assist in some of the logistics of these camps. We will be seeking volunteers to help with transportation and off hill athlete supervision.

These days of uncertainty are difficult for all of us, especially when it comes to planning and looking forward. As we receive new information, which lately has been daily, we ask that you be patient with us as we continue to work through all the new guidelines and mandates. We are always guided by the philosophy of eliminating unnecessary risk and remaining respectful of our duty of care for all our athletes, staff, and members.

Regards,

Bob
