Posted by Jack Evans on Jan 25 2023 at 03:26PM PST in 2022-2023

Hello U12!

Race weekend is finally here! Please ensure you complete the participation agreement mentioned below. Please have a thorough read through below as there’s a lot to cover!

Registration for Janyk Cup & Skills Event
If you are attending this weekend you must register for+ both+ the Janyk Cup and Skills Event. It seems many parents missed the deadline. Blanca has reopened the link; it will close tomorrow at 5pm.

Things of note:
Race Suits: No race suits for Saturday’s skills event. We will allow race suits for the Janyk Cup if you have them. With temperatures expected to drop this weekend I encourage kids to layer up with thermals. If the temperature drops to low, we may give kids the option to race with a layer on top of their speed suit for Sunday. We will have a clothing bag left at the finish line for extra layers after their race runs so, please have all kids bring an extra layer for Sunday. Kids do not need chin guards for either race days.

Janyk Cup: This will be 1 GS race with 2 runs. Both run times will be combined to make their final time. Awards will be on hill after the race finishes.

Start Lists and Race Schedule: I will send out race schedules and start lists the evening before the events after our Team Captains Meetings on WhatsApp. Skills Event is planned to run from 9:30-13:45. Kids are allowed as many runs as they would like through the stations.

Start Area: We kindly ask that parents stay out of the start area during the event.

Tuning: Please wax with Cold Wax for the weekend unless forecast changes. I advise waxes with a range between -8 to -15. If you are using general / training wax (nano), that will also be adequate. There is a firm layer in the snow so please ensure skis are sharp. Coaches can then dull the tip and tails if the snow is too dry and gripey.

Video: Last weekends GS video is now uploaded and labeled on Sprongo.

Parents race run access: We invite you to enter the DMNTC (Ptarmigan) at the third entrance to Old Crow, NOT where the start and skate is NOR the speed trap. There will be a net closing this run to the public – but an opening with a sign designating “Race Training in Progress”. This is a closed run but there will be a skier’s path to access the DMNTC. Once on the course – please stay back of the race courses and be aware of your surroundings. If you are not a very confident blue skier – there is an excellent viewing area at the bottom of Ptarmigan that you can access from the green run – “It happens”. Please see attached pdf for Ptarmigan entrance point.

Label Gear!: Please label all gear. This includes skis, poles, backpack, gloves and ski clothing. It is very easy for clothing to be misplaced or go missing when kids strip down to race suits.
