WMSC U18/U21 Program Update - October 28-November 4

Good Morning U18/U21 Team,

You’ve got to love this time of year; football is on TV, the World Series (baseball) is looking like it will go the distance, and Solden just wrapped up to mark the official start of Ski Season! The cooling trend going on outside is slowly limiting our options for activity and directing us towards the moment we’ve all been waiting for: hitting the slopes, HARD. Utilizing analogies relating to the sports mentioned above, this update will cover the most important things going on this week from a programming perspective. It’ll be quick and painless so please read to the end!

Panorama + Sun Peaks
Covering our bases and making key plays is the only way to keep the game from getting out of hand. If you watch baseball (Bueller?…Bueller?…), the team operates similar to ours in that it is a combination of individual, usually isolated plays that dictate the outcome of the game. To bring it back to us and skiing, the bases needing covered are our upcoming trips and the plays needing made are sign-ups. Maybe 13 is our lucky number for pre-season roster size, but I have a feeling there are more of you out there who want to ski. If that’s you and you’re not registered yet, catch the ball and touch the bag. The initial deadline (Oct. 25) has been extended to Nov. 1, but that will be the final cut-off for both Panorama Camp and Sun Peaks. At the end of this week we are all systems go with or without you. If you have any questions about how to sign-up, please contact Blanca ( ASAP.

Weekly Fitness Sessions
This is it, the last week of program fitness sessions before the taper into ski season and a maintenance-only diet of dryland. Tuesday to Thursday are your last chances to move the chains, and as exciting as it is to throw a hail-marry from way back at our own 20-yard line, the chances of scoring a touchdown get better the closer you are to the end-zone. If you’ve been showing up for sessions all month and the last, this is your time to finish the drive and run the ball in. If you’ve missed a few (or a lot) of sessions, it’s never too late to get back in the game and create a momentum shift. Details for this week’s sessions can be found on our TeamPages calendar, if you have any questions I am always available ( I hope to see you all this week!

Norquay Date Change
As the title suggests, there has been a small logistical change to the dates of the Norquay trip at the start of December. Travel out is now December 4th (formerly the 3rd). Race dates and return date remain unchanged. Trip sheet for this camp will be available by the end of the week, if you any questions in the meantime, let me have em’ (

We’re only two weeks away from putting skis on snow and, while the excitement has been building for some time now, it’s reached a level where it’s impossible to deny the feeling—the stoke—any longer. This week’s U18/U21 Teamship Value is meant to help control that feeling and keep it channeled in the right direction:
Excellence in Effort – Be Focused. With our first days on snow in a long time almost close enough to reach out and touch, keeping our sights set on the target (in theory) should be the easiest it has been since May. One week of fitness, one week of gathering homework and doing laundry, and we’re gone. It’s second nature at this point, but let’s keep checking our boxes and keeping our eyes on the horizon.

If you haven’t done it yet, give the Solden WC GS races a watch (I’ve got a few tips on how to watch, happy to share). It’s ski season folks!
