September 13th – Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Summer Classic Golf Tournament
The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Summer Classic Golf Tournament takes place this Friday. The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation is an Annual Contribution to the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, and provided significant support in the development of the Dave Murray National Training Centre.
For anyone who is not playing the tournament, you are still able to contribute through the heli ball drop, silent & live auctions:

This Saturday, we are meeting at Lower Field at Myrtle Philip from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. If you are participating on the Fitness Weekend Camp and want to join the Sports Saturdays or if you want to ride with the team, meet at the Club Cabin at 1.30pm to bike to the field.
Please come prepare with proper outdoor sporting attire, water and snacks. We will be back at the Club Cabin at 4:15pm

September 16 until early November – Exercise Sessions by Dr. Ryan Oughtred
Ryan Oughtred has offered to run some by donation to the Soccer Club exercise sessions for anyone that wants to get ready for the ski season. All ages are welcome! parents and children are encouraged to join.
Starts 5.30-7:00 pm Monday and Fridays starting now until early November.

• 50% of the sessions will be play/ soccer, handball, whatever everyone is keen on, mainly for the last 45 minutes of the sessions.
For those of you that don’t know Ryan, he is a former CAST member, a former coach with WMSC, he owns an exercise clinic called HealthOut, and he is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in BC.
September 30th – NSTF Donations Deadline
If you are planning to contribute to our WMSC Developing Champions Fund through Sport BC the deadline is Monday, September 30th. Please make sure to email us your contribution receipt to avoid being charged again on your pre-authorized payment plan.

The Nominating Committee of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club is calling for nominations for the position of Director for a two-year term commencing after the 2018 Annual Members’ Meeting scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2019.
The Nominating Committee is seeking one qualified candidate, to play a key role in the stewardship of the Club, and who respect the Club’s core values while delivering leading-edge governance attributes including experience, engagement, transparency and accountability. Qualified candidates will have the skill-sets, expertise and experience necessary to further the Club’s long-term strategic plan, while also playing the key role of supervising the Club’s management. The Club benefits from directors in both the “parent” and “independent” roles (the latter being persons with a deep knowledge of and passion for ski racing and/or a background in governance, and who do not currently have children in Club programs).
For 2019, the Nominating Committee is seeking one candidate for the role of At-large Director.
Where qualifications are comparable, preference will be given to female candidates with the goal of having greater female representation on the Board.

Under the Club’s By-laws the Board of Directors will consist of not less than three and not more than twelve members, excluding the Chair and Vice-Chair/Past Chair. The Board currently consists of eight members, excluding the Chair. Directors must be full or honorary members of the Club. Directors are elected by the Club’s members at the Club’s annual meetings. Excluding the Chair, Directors are for two-year terms, with one half of the board elected every year. Directors are expected to commit to serving serve at least two terms. The Chair on election as Vice-Chair serves a four-year term: one year as the Club’s Vice-Chair, two years as the Club’s Chair, and one year as the Club’s Past Chair.
The Board of Directors has adopted a target of eight members, comprised of four Directors At-Large, the Chair, the Vice Chair/Past Chair, the Finance Director and the Club Secretary. Of the four Directors At-Large, the Board has set a goal that three of these Directors are “independent” by virtue of not having children presently enrolled in the Clubs programs.

The BC Societies Act provides:
Directors must be qualified
(1) A person must not be a director of a society if the person is not qualified under either section 44 or the bylaws to be a director.
(2) A director of a society who is not, or who ceases to be, qualified under either section 44 or the bylaws to be a director must promptly resign.
Persons qualified to be directors
(1) A person is qualified to be a director of a society only if the person is an individual who is at least 18 years of age.
(2) Despite subsection (1), an individual who is 16 or 17 years of age is qualified to be a director of a society if provided for in the regulations.
(3) Despite subsections (1) and (2), an individual is not qualified to be a director of a society if the individual is
(a) found by any court, in Canada or elsewhere, to be incapable of managing the individual’s own affairs,
(b) an undischarged bankrupt, or
© convicted in or out of British Columbia of an offence in connection with the promotion, formation or management of a corporation or unincorporated entity, or of an offence involving fraud, unless
(i) the court orders otherwise,
(ii) 5 years have elapsed since the last to occur of
(A) the expiration of the period set for suspension of the passing of sentence without a sentence having been passed,
(B) the imposition of a fine,
© the conclusion of the term of any imprisonment, and
(D) the conclusion of the term of any probation imposed, or
(iii) a pardon was granted or issued, or a record suspension was ordered, under the Criminal Records Act (Canada) and the pardon or record suspension, as the case may be, has not been revoked or ceased to have effect.

Summer Fitness Programs
We are now switched to our Summer Fitness Programs. Due to the spread of registration to the previously published current Fitness Camps, we have had to revise the plans and will run 2 summer fitness camps, 2 fall weekends and we will run weekly fall Sport Saturdays this fall.
The fitness camps and weekends will include various sports, activities, information sessions, BBQ and a social; and the weekend fitness camps will also join in the ‘Sport Saturdays’ which will be different games open to all athletes, alumni, coaches and members.

Volunteers for Ironman July 28, 2019
Have you completed your 8 days of volunteering? Ironman is an excellent opportunity. WMSC receives a grant and this year we will invest it in Gym equipment. The amount of the grant depends on the number of volunteers and time volunteered. Let’s team up and fill our 80 volunteer’s requirements for the 2 stations at Green Lake. More Benefits to you:

For the past 49 years Chris has been involved with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
Chris has been able to transfer the knowledge and experience as a racer to coaching with WMSC in the 1970s and then to being a parent, a volunteer and board member.
Chris has worked at the club since 1999 and was the club administrator from 2010 until 2019. Chris has used her knowledge and passion for the athletes and the sport as the driving factor in how she has continued to contribute to the operations of WMSC and she has been instrumental in the development and evolution of the club to where it is just now.
Chris has also run other businesses during the time that she has been involved with the club, and as such she has been able to offer employment for racers in their off-season and many donations for fundraising events.
It has been a real pleasure to work with Chris and she always brings a calm, organized and welcoming presence to the club. Chris, along with her family, have continuously made enormous contributions over the years, and the Parsons speed camp and bursary have undoubtedly been key to the development of so many world class speed skiers coming from the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and BC.
With such an extensive time of involvement in the club, Chris has a connection to so many generations of WMSC athletes, parents and alumni and her contributions go much further than the WMSC. Chris is currently on the Board of the Vancouver Ski Foundation who make a significant contribution to our sport across the province and annually to the Whistler Cup. Even ‘Christine’s’ on Blackcomb is named after Chris!
I cannot thank Chris enough for supporting not only myself and Blanca into the club and showing us the ropes of how the club operates, but for the support that she has given to all athletes, volunteers and staff.
Chris will obviously continue to be involved with the club at special events and of course for the Parsons race.
Chris will be nominated as an honorary Club Member and we will also celebrate Chris’s contributions at the Alumni party in the new year when we will have a strong representation from each generation that Chris has known through her time with the club.
On behalf of the Club, I would like to thank and congratulate Chris for all that she has done for our sport and for what she has achieved in her time with the club and wish her all the best in her next chapter.
