White Snowcapped mountains are reminding us that Winter Is steadily approaching. The freezing level has steadily been creeping towards the valley floor and I’m sure there will be snow in the village before most have had a chance to realize their winter tires are still collecting dust in the basement. The season tends to sneak up on us. With that in mind this Update will center around The Sun peaks preseason training Camp and Our upcoming Kickoff day.
Sun peaks Preseason Training Camp
In exactly One month we will be skiing at sun peaks (conditions permitting). Some of you have already signed up and many I know are planning on confirming your attendance shortly. For those of you who may have missed the update, the trip sheet is loaded up on Team pages. As we approach Halloween it is imperative that we all are on the same page with the Trip Sheets. Deadline for signup is November 8th. Any changes necessary will be made the days following Each events Signup deadline to provide the most affordable trips possible this season. “Sun peaks Tripsheet”:http://teampages.com/clubs/6388/documents/519427
For those of you Unfamiliar with team pages: Go to wmsc.info and locate the U12 program in the Programs menu then scroll to the bottom in documents. There you will find trip sheets, Documents and Other pertinent Information. Including Our Newly Updated Fridge Calendars. If you have time to explore the functionality of Team pages, I would suggest you play with it. It’s our main source of information at the WMSC.
- Kickoff Weekend & Jim Taylor (@ Whistler Secondary) November 16-17th*
November 16th is our Kickoff day this year. The club has Organized an exciting day. Dr Jim Taylor will be speaking to Athletes, parents and coaches throughout the day. Dr Taylor is and Internationally recognized authority on the psychology of sport and parenting and has been a consultant for the US and Japanese ski teams among others. He also speaks regularly at elementary and secondary schools around the country. Dr Taylor is Regularly featured on Skiracing.com with a weekly blog about the life of ski racers and ski racing parents.
We will also have a chance to sit down as U12 Parents and Lead Coach and go over an overview of what to expect and what will be expected of your Athletes. I cannot stress how much of an asset kickoff weekend can be to your child’s development in ski racing and becoming an athlete, and your understanding of how The WMSC Club and U12 Operate throughout the year.
Our fitness assessments will be happening on the morning of November 17th. Both days will be based out of the Whistler Secondary school.
Athlete Performance profile Meetings
The WMSC does APP Meetings for every level of athlete from U12 to U21. It is a basic Goal setting sheet with some performance tracking. Everything we do In U12 is process driven so we will be looking at the steps to achieve those goals.
I will be starting to schedule APP meetings as soon as possible if you will be in the whistler area and would like to get yours started, I’m keen to get going on them and get an idea of each athletes goals and priorities for the coming season and beyond.
