Hi everyone,

Hello U12 parents and racers to the 2019-20 winter season. Even though we are still 57 days away from the opening of Whistler and Blackcomb it’s time to get out some information that will help you prepare for your year with the WMSC.
Equipment:
There’s lots to learn here and you’ll need some help. If you have any questions before purchasing skis and boots, please contact me.
Used skis:
Many of you will be looking at the Ski Swap (Oct 12-13) to gather equipment but please know what you need in mind and have a backup plan in case there’s little available to you.
New skis:
The ski shops are starting to stock their winter selection, and there’s lots to choose from. U12s will need a pair of GS and SL skis. Typically, racers at our age range from 135-142cm in SL and 151-158cms in GS.
The smallest of the group could use smaller but please contact me if you believe that’s the case a ski that’s too small can lead Athletes to put themselves in awkward positions. You maybe surprised how much they can handle.
New skis are un-prepared for skiing and need to go through a process that Prepares them before starting this season. The base bevel and side edges need to be set and the sidewall removed. We will have tuning Clinics before and throughout the season
Boots:
Ski boots are a top priority at this stage. They need to fit and they need to flex. When you’re at the shop listening to the ‘the pros’ trying to sell you boots give me call if you have questions.
My key Priorities are: Can the athlete Flex the boot over the toe, do they stand centered in the cuff, Are there any major pressure points or pinches.

Communication:
Our club uses Team Pages for communicating with parents and racers. Their mobile app connects everyone together to see training plans, the meeting times and what equipment needed that day. It also has dryland and extra curricular activity planned as well. To use Team Pages you’ll have to download the app and simply need to let us know what your availability in advance of the session. There’s one for parents and a different one for athletes to use on their phones (if they have one).

Ski Swap and Turkey Sale will be hosted at the ski club October 12-13th
This will be the best place to meet other parents early in the season, and we need the help! You also get the best look at all the equipment for sale. Contact the office to volunteer. Volunteering@wmsc.Info

There’s lots more detail to come but at the moment you can view the 19-20 Fridge Calendar U12
Fall Dryland
We will be having Sports Saturdays until -October 19th
Dryland assessments Nov 16th planning to do a Hike or skate day November 17th To be determined by weather and Numbers.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing everyone soon.
